For shorter distances and point to point communications the UX-992 Spread Spectrum Radio set can be used. It provides a reliable RS-232 connection be tween the AutoMet Data Logger and PC Computer, or other display devices. Operating in the 900 mHz range, the UX-992 requires no FCC license for use in the United States and many other countries. As an option, a 2.4 GHz version is available. Maximum baud rate with the AutoMet Logger is 9600 Baud. The radio is mounted inside the logger enclosure with a small external antenna for short range operation. For operation up to 10 miles ( 15 Km) , a small directional Yagi can be used at each end of the communications link.
The small low cost radio link can be used to collect data from a remote logger by simply driving up near the site in your vehicle and then using a laptop to extract the data from the logger. Simply set the receiver unit on the dash of the automobile, and connect the RS-232 output to your laptop. Typically supplied as a pair with 10 ft low loss coax cables, and two small Yagi directional antennas. Other custom configurations of the radio sets are available.
